The Curious Case of Emma Dalmayne, Bleach Cures, and Autism Warriors

***UPDATED BLOG POST!*** This is a blog post that I wrote before 2020. Keep that in mind please. I'm actually cringing looking back at this, reading it because I had so much energy back in college. This is the first Bleacher blog post that I wrote ever, and it was before Emma had reached out to work with me through TAC after she read this.

This world is retracting, and not moving forward.
Hello there, reader. If you are a parent, then the question I am about to ask is a valid question. Would you ever physically abuse your kid?
If no, then step 2. Would you agree with me that it is unacceptable to force your kids to drink bleach?
If yes, then step 3. Would you agree with me that forcing autistic children to drink bleach is unacceptable to “cure” them of their autism?
If yes, then step 4 and more. This subject is not a fun discussion. We currently live in a society that allows this type of behavior to occur. Who in their right mind would force any child to drink bleach? I should mention that I do not have kids. I work with kids, and love working with them.
When is it ever socially acceptable to force a kid to drink bleach, no matter who they are?
Before 2020, this behavior occurred in Indiana. Here is a “unique”case, where we have a parent of an autistic child forcing her own son to drink bleach. And this is a new concept to some, but for those of us advocates, it’s nothing new. What is the root cause?

Autism is a disease. Autism needs to be fixed. Our behavior is outrageous and our meltdowns are only ever violent. We cannot live on our own and are problematic and burdensome. We lack empathy and we do not know how to take care of ourselves. We suck at communication and us Asperger's folks are great at math and are too high functioning to be autistic. Person first language matters more than identity first language, and we are not human beings. We’re robots. The functioning labels matter and everything is always in black and white and the spectrum will always be linear. For those of us who are severe, we suffer and we cannot advocate for ourselves, cannot be successful, and fail at everything. We have the mindset of 10 year olds, even when we’re in our 30s. We also are labeled as severe when we have comorbids and we cannot understand how to behave and how to learn to love. So, that makes those who are high functioning less autistic and fixable. And we just are not allowed to accept ourselves and we need to just follow everything society wants. We’re never going to be able to have kids, never be able to marry, we need to be cured and sterilized, and we just cannot go to college because we’re not smart enough. We should just live in institutions for the rest of our lives. Oh, and autism is not genetic and anyone can easily be autistic, which makes vaccines dangerous. Oh and we cannot ever have sex, and we are too sensitive.

It is redundant to think through that when thinking about it. None of that makes sense (this italicized paragraph speaks for itself). This is the societal perception, is it not? After all, that was just painful writing all of that “information”. All the above in italics was not meant to be taken seriously. But that is what autism warriors do, and they feed off of the attention. Autism warriors are selfish and narrow-minded. They consider themselves more important than their own children. This is nothing new to those of us on the spectrum.

Next, we have Emma Dalmayne. Who is Emma? Well, she is an autistic advocate and disability rights activist that lives in the UK. Why is she important?

Emma Dalmayne:

Emma is the one who started all of the activism work about these bleach cures in the UK. Without Emma, we would have no idea that this would be happening. The advocates would, but Emma has the news’ attention right now, and that is a good sign. Emma is the one who went (quite literally) to legislators, got their attention, and is still attempting to convince legislation that these MMS cures are hurting autistic children. Emma is the mother of six autistic children herself (Legislation is up in the air of passing).
Here are two wonderful videos by Emma herself explaining why these MMS cures are unacceptable:
Kerri Rivera is a MMS supporter, and the one who created all of this. This should not have to happen! We live in a world that thinks it is socially acceptable to force kids to drink bleach because of who they are as autistics?! Simply immoral. We should not have to have these videos, right!? But here we are folks. What am I getting into next? Emma is an autistic parent, and she is NOT an autism warrior. She just wants legislation to pass something that would make these “cures” illegal.

An Autism warwekwe;fj4i3j? What?
An autism warrior is a parent, no matter what gender, that cannot accept their autistic child. These people consist of anti-vaxxers, Autism Speaks parents, The Autism Society of America’s parents, and others who hold the perception and rhetoric that autism is a “disease” and something that needs to be fixed. These parents expect their kids to not be autistic and to not act autistic. These parents have been hurting the autistic community for years. These parents are the reason the stigma around autism still exists, intentionally. They do not care about anyone but themselves.

What can I do to help as an ally?
Do not, under any circumstances, ever feed your autistic child bleach. Vaccinate your kids, listen to us autistics, and focus on acceptance. The more you do this, the more you will unlearn the systemic mindset you have been taught about communication, behavior, and change. Ableism exists. Tell parents to not feed their kids bleach. And last but not least, VACCINATE YOUR KIDS, PLEASE.
There is not one cure for autism. Autism is not a disease. It is not a mental illness. It is a natural variation in the brain.
